Benjamin Sprague of Buckland, Mass, and Whitingham, VT; some of his brother's children lived in Spragueville, N. Y*., and a branch of the family lived in Colerain, Mass. He married probably in Mass. to Mary Clark who was of Irish descent. He served as a sergeant in Capt. Abel Densmor's Co., col. Elisha Porter's Hampshire Co. Regt.; engaged July 24, 1779; disc. Aug. 31, 1779; service 1 mo. 14 dys, at New London, Conn., including 6 dys (113 miles) travel home. (Source: Mass. Soldiers and Sailors)

BENJAMIN SPRAGUE, No. 6, above, was born 7 October 1788 and died about 1853-55 in Antwerp, NY; he was buried at Spragueville, NY. He married SARAH JONES, who died about 1861 in Woods, NY. Benjamin was a farmer and stock dealer. He resided in Whitingham, VT, Buckland and Hawley, Mass, and in the early 40's removed to Antwerp, NY. ( SEE HIS WILL, this site for additional family.)

MARSHALL SPRAGUE, son of Benjamin Sprague and Sarah Jones, was born 29 June 1817 in Buckland, Mass; died 28 Nov. 1881 in Woods, NY. He married 2 January 1842 in Cummington, Mass, to ELIZA WAGNER who was born 8 May 1820 in Leyden, Mass., and died 20 March 1876 at Woods, dau. of Cornelius Wagner. Marshal was a farmer who resided in Buckland, Hawley and Cummington, Mass., and in Sept. 1849, located at Antwerp, NY, where he lived until 1 March 1860, when he removed to Woods, NY.

JOEL SPRAGUE* who was a nephew of BENJAMIN SPRAGUE, was born 13 June 1791 in Buckland and died 17 January 1887 in Spragueville, NY. Joel's siblings: ISRAEL SPRAGUE; REV. ISAAC SPRAGUE, born 20 November 1802 in Buckland and died 9 Sept. 1884 in Florence, NY - he married 14 January 1827 to SOPHRONIA PAYNE.
