DEATH -
S. R. CLEVELAND of this city, received a telegraph dispatch from Ipswich, Dakota, Thursday evening stating that MRS. P. B. POTTER died there at 6 a.m. Thursday. The deceased was well known in this vicinity, and her many friends will regret to learn of her untimely death. She was the daughter of P. CLEVELAND of East Hounsfield. She was married about a year ago, and has since made Ipswich her home.
HIRAM PRIEST died at his residence in the town of Watertown, last Wednesday night. He came to this city on Wednesday and returned home in the evening, when he was taken with hemorrhage of the lungs and died a few minutes after he reached the house. He was well known and respected and the family has the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
HOPESTILL FORBES died at his home near Rural Hill, Friday afternoon, age 74 years. Mr. Forbes has been a resident of the town for something over fifty years, and was highly esteemed and respected by all who knew him. He was the father of Mrs. RUDOLPHUS BLISS and LELAND FORBES both of whom reside at Rural Hill.

DROWNED AT PILLAR POINT-
EDWIN WELDON, son of MRS. NELLIS WELDON, who lives on the Middle Road, north shore of Pillar Point, was drowned in the lake last Wednesday. Weldon, who was 21 years of age went to the residence of Mr. Pool on the north shore, for the purpose of procuring a boat to go fishing. Mr. Pool refused to let him have his boat, as he did not consider it safe. Weldon stayed about the place until Mr. Pool went out in a field to plow, when he took the boat and rowed out a short distance from shore where he began fishing. The boat leaked badly and was soon partially filled with water. By what means is not known but soon after the boat was upset and Weldon was sitting on the bottom of the boat calling for help. Mrs. Pool heard him and sent at once for her husband, but before they could reach him, Weldon had fallen from the boat and was drowned. He was subject to epileptic fits and it is thought he had one while on the boat. The people gathered to do all they could to bring him to life, but failed.
NOTES- The remains of FRANK C. FOX, who was killed by an accident out west, will arrive here Friday of this week.
LORENZO MILLER a well-known farmer of Tylerville, died at the resident of M. C. MONROE on State St., Tuesday evening from injuries received by the running away of his team in this city last Saturday. His right leg was broken and internal injuries were sustained. He was nearly 58 years of age.
KILLED HIMSELF -
ALONZO HUSTED, who resided with his wife and children at 1121/2 Arsenal St., in this city, committed suicide about 4 o'clock last Friday afternoon. He was employed at Bagley & Sewell's foundry, where he worked steady until a few days ago, when he said he did not feel very well, and told the family he would not work for a week. About 7 o'clock Thursday evening he went to his son's residence on Stone St., and borrowed his English bull dog seven shooter revolver telling his son that he wanted it to go hunting with. The following day he went down into the cellar of his house and fired two shots...In one of his pockets was a piece of brown paper...with a farewell message. Coroner Rexford held no inquest as it was a clear case of premeditated suicide. The deceased was 68 years of age and leaves several children to mourn his loss. His wife, and son Hiram, were visiting at Harrisville, when the deed was committed. The funeral occurred Monday and the remains were interred in the North Watertown Cemetery.

ROSELL THORNTON DEATH -
ROSELL THORNTON, age 70 years, residing on Pearl St., in this city, passed quietly away at midnight, Oct. 17 of dyspepsia. Seven years ago this fall, Mr. Thornton, while engaged in making repairs on the tower of the court house, was working on a scaffold, which gave way, and he fell a distance of 25 feet to the roof below, causing paralysis of the lower limbs from injury to the spine. From this accident the deceased never recovered, and as confined to the house, except as he could get about on crutches. That injury contributed to his death.
OBITUARY - HON. A. W. CLARK:
Hon. AMBROSE W. CLARK died Friday evening at his home, No 54 Massey St., age 77 years. He was one of Watertown's best known citizens having served this district for two terms in Congress, during the exciting days of the Civil War. He as first elected in 1860. He has been an invalid for some years and is death was not unexpected, though it occurred rather suddenly Friday evening...He leaves a son and a daughter, Col. A. W. Clark, paymaster in the United States Army and Mrs. G. A. BAGLEY.
FRANK C. FOX, who met an untimely death in the far west, a few weeks since...made many warm friends. His body was interred in the cemetery at Grangeville in a sealed airtight casket...the remarks were made by Rev. W. A. Hall in the west. From the comments it seemed that his horse threw him into a ravine and he hit his head on the other side, after which the horse rolled over him. His remains were removed from the west and sent to Watertown, where they arrived on Friday last; the funeral and burial services over the remains of the late Alderman Frank C. Fox were performed Saturday afternoon. The services at the house were held at 2 o'clock and Rev. R. A. Olin and F. P. Winnie officiated. The city officials followed the remains to the grave and interment was at Brookside.

OBITUARY - E. G. DODGE:
EDWIN GARDNER DODGE died at his home in the village of Gouverneur at 9:30 A.M., Friday of paralysis, age about 47 years. Mr. Dodge was a brother of Mrs. John Lansing of this city and W. Robert Dodge, postmaster at Gouverneur. He resided in Watertown when a young man and at the age of 25 years moved to Gouverneur...About 18 months ago Mr. Dodge suffered a stroke of paralysis. A few weeks ago he suffered a second shock which ultimately caused his death...Mr. Dodge was prominent and active in politics in this town...Mr. Dodge was never married.

EDWARD NUN, age about 50 years and residing with his wife at State Road, Adams, committed suicide by taking paris green Tuesday night. Nun had been ill for some time past. Reports say that he was out of his right mind during the past few days. It is supposed that he grew melancholy in view of the symptoms of consumption developed and the apparent hopelessness of his case. When convulsions seized him it was suspected that poison was the cause. All efforts to save him were ineffectual for he had taken sufficient to cause the death of several.
OBITUARY -MRS. JAMES KEARNS:
Died, at her hold home in the village of Philadelphia, NY, Sunday morning, Nov. 27, CATHERINE FINLEY, wife of JAMES KEARNS, age 67 years. She had but recently returned to her old homestead from Theresa Junction, where she had been for the past nine years. The deceased was the mother of Supervisor THOMAS F. KEARNS of the 4th ward in this city. She leaves a husband and six children who mourn her loss, one of whom was telegraph operator at Theresa Junction for many years...
Rev. DANIEL W. RONEY, age 76 and one of the oldest ministers connected with the Methodist Church, died at Utica, Thursday morning. In 1848 he became a member of the old Black Rover Conference and subsequently served as pastor of churches at Red Creek, Cato, Depauville, Carthage, Canton, Belleville, Rome, Baldwinsville and Boonville and other places. He filled the positions of presiding elder in the Adams and Ogdensburg districts.
ORRY SHEAR, age 17 years was drowned in the Indian River at Philadelphia, this county, about 12 o'clock last Saturday. He was pushing logs into the boom near Robert's Steam Saw Mill in that village, when he lost his balance and fell into the river. His body was recovered ten minutes after the accident occurred. Dr. Rodenhurst tried to resuscitate him, but is efforts were in vain.
The body of JOSEPH DELANEY, who was drowned October 3rd, while passing from Clayton to his home on Grindstone Island in a row boat was found Thursday by John Tidds and David White of Wells Island, floating in the waters of the St. Lawrence River near Peel Dock below Fisher's landing. ...
ACCIDENTALLY KILLED:
CHARLES McCORMICK, age 17 years falls to the ground a corpse while hunting with three companions in Snell's Woods last Thursday- Charles was accidentally shot while hunting in Snell's Woods about three miles from this city. Charles, Geo. W. Adams, Houghton Herrick and Willard McCormick started out at 6:30 o'clock that morning on a hunting trip. In pursuit of a partridge, McCormick led the chase. Adams slipped and in throwing up his hands to regain his balance, his thumb slipped from the hammer, which immediately fell upon the loaded cartridge and a second later, Charles sank to the ground...The Coroner and District Attorney were notified and decided that the sad affair was purely accidental. The remains were taken to his late residence, No. 102 Franklin Street in this city, where the mother was stricken down by grief...The funeral was attended from St. Patrick's Church at 10 o'clock Saturday morning...
FAMILY REUNION -
A very pleasant occurrence was that which took place at Great Bend the 24th inst. when, after a separation of 17 years, the family of Jos. Brown were reunited upon the old homestead. Mr. Brown's six children are more or less widely separated. The eldest daughter, MRS. GEO. O. LANPHER resides at Wakefield, Neb; MRS. R. H. PHELPS at Adams Centre; MRS. TRUMAN CROWNER at Natural Bridge; MRS. FRANK HALL at Bridgeport, Conn.; Mr. WM. BROWN at Sanfords Corners and Mr. FRED BROWN is at the normal school at Potsdam.

OBITUARY -
MRS. MARGARET MORRIN departed this life Nov. 28, 1887, after a brief illness of one week. The deceased lived to the advanced age of 75 years, emigrating to this country from Dublin, Ireland, about the year 1839, residing in New York until her marriage with Mr. JAMES MORRIN of Harrisburg, PA, at which place they lived until his death which took place in the year 1842. From this time, for the remainder of her life she lived a widow. She came to Northern NY shortly after her husband's death, living with her brother, the late PETER LYNHAM, until his death, after which she lived with her only child, a daughter, MRS. WILLIAM QUINN, of Sterlingville...A requiem mass was sung by Rev. Father Manning of St. Mary's Church, Sterlingville...she was buried in the cemetery at that place...
EDWARD NUNN -
Edward Nunn was born in Richfield, Otsego Co., July 14th, 1840 and came to Rodman about 1857, where he married a daughter of John Hancock in 1862. They had one child, a daughter. In 1874 Mr. Nunn joined the First Baptist Church of Adams...During the month of September a very large sore broke out on his limb which affected his mind and caused his death. Dr. Fred Bailey attended his last hours and did all that could be done, but he had passed beyond recovery before it was known that he had taken the Paris green...

OBITUARY -
MRS. MARY W. BALLARD, wife of S. W. BALLARD, died Dec. 5th at the Keep Home. The cause of her death was cancer, an insidious diseases which, in this instance, was thought to be sciatic rheumatism. Mr. and Mrs. Ballard have resided at the Keep Home for some time past, and the deceased had endeared herself to all who knew her. After a happy period of 53 years of married life, Mr. Ballard feels deeply the force of the blow which takes the beloved partner of his joys and sorrows away from him forever. Mrs. Ballard's maiden name was MARY WARREN. She was born in Hounsfield in 1816, being 71 years old. Her father, ELISHA WARREN, was a farmer, well known and respected...Upon reaching the age of 19 years she married to S. W. Ballard, who lived at that time in Brownville. The marriage occurred in the town of Brownville to which place her parents had moved, October 27, 1834. Mr. and Mrs. Ballard resided there until 1849, when they removed to this city, only a few days before the great conflagration. They have resided in Watertown ever since, Mr. Ballard having been engaged a greater portion of the time in the business of undertaker. Ten children were born to them, all but four of whom died in infancy...Mrs. Ballard was a communicant of Trinity Church, having been a member since 1849.

RICHEY, and leaves a wife and a daughter, MRS. W. J. STILLMAN of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to mourn his loss.
A HORRIBLE FATE -
EDGAR SOUTHARD falls from the second floor of a mill to the rocks below, a distance of 35 feet and is almost instantly killed....Mr. Southward was age 40...The deceased leaves a wife who resides at No. 131 Main St., in this city. JOHN SOUTHARD of Brownville is a brother of the deceased...The funeral service was held in the village of Brownville at 1:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. The remains will be interred in the cemetery in that village.

In Evans Mills, Dec. 26, RICHARD F. PAUL, age 44 years.
In Willard, NY Dec. 21, OCTAVA MONTONDA, age 40 years.
In this city, Dec. 25, MARY CARR, age 75 years.
The death of Mrs. A. A. VORCE of Henderson, is announced to have occurred Wednesday. Mrs. Vorce was a sister of MRS. G. H. READE, formerly of this city. The cause was heart trouble.
BENJAMIN BABCOCK, who was stricken with a stroke of paralysis while seated at supper some days ago, died at his late residence on Moulton St., about seven o'clock Wednesday evening. The deceased was 72 years of age and an employe of the Watertown Steam Engine Company...
Dr. WILLARD P. SPALDING died at Fort Wayne, Indiana on the 19th inst. Dr. Spalding was the first practicing dentist in Watertown. He established himself here in 1829. He was born in Chelmsford, Mass., in Jan. 1801, consequently would have attained his 87th yer next January. His wife was ALMIRA PENNNIMAN of Wilna, who died in 1861. Dr. Spalding leaves two children: WILLARD W. SPALDING of Fort Wayne, and MRS. F. T. EVANS of Carthage, NY
