In the matter of the estate of HUGH O'NEIL of Ellisburgh, Jefferson Co., NY:

On 3 July 1837, MATHEW BOOMER, one of the executors, petitioned to open probate; that Hugh had deceased in the summer of 1836, and left a will.

HUE ONIEL of Ellisburgh named OLIVA CORNELL? And MARGARET PAKER, and JOHN ONEIL. Balance of estate for charitable purposes. He named ELDEN MARTIN, E., COOK, AZARIAH DOAN and MATHEW BOOMER as executors. Will dated: 31 May 1828. /s/ Hugh O'Neal.
Witnesses: MARTIN E. COOK, GEORGE N. FISH and RACHEL SHEPERDSON
Will proved: 11 July 1837.

Jefferson Co., NY Wills, Vol. A., p. 235.

NOTE: Variant spellings of both the first and last names were used throughout the documents in the file. Hugh could not read, but could sign his name. He depended upon others to draft the will for him, read it to him and then he signed the will. Two of the witnesses who saw him sign the will were deceased.
