NOTE: No Petition and no proof date. The 1860 census of Brownville, Jefferson Co. shows Leonard Wheeler, age 47, b New Hampshire and wife, Hannah Wheeler, age 38, b NY.

NNY Genealogy Stories in Stone lists Leonard Wheeler died 15 Feb. 1880 at 68 years; buried Dexter Cemetery in Brownville. Hannah Greenman Wheeler, wife of Leonard died 22 July 1887 at 65 years and is buried in the Dexter Cemetery.

Transcription of the Will of James Wheeler of Brownville, Jefferson County, New York
Probated 1835

In the name of God Amen. I James Wheeler of the town of Brownville County of Jefferson & State of New York being of sound mind & disposing mind memory and Understanding do hereby make publish & declare my last will & Testament in manner & form following.

Firstly I order & direct that my Executor hereinafter named pay all my just debts & funeral Charges as soon after my deceased as conveniantly [sic] may be.

Secondly I give & devise unto my Beloved Wife Rachel Wheeler a comfortable support sickness & in health and Doctors if needed and carefull [unreadable] & nessaries [sic] convenient for her situation and after her decease her funeral charges paid.

Thirdly I give and devise unto my grandson Leonard Wheeler Jr of Brownville County of Jefferson & state of New York the south half of the lot of Land I now live on. for which I now hold a contract Dated 15th March 1831. Also the peice [sic] of Land on the East side of the road Borreded [sic] as follows Viz. South & East by Edward James North by Cyras Allen[?] West by the road. Containing By Estimate about eight acres it being a part of the above contracted Land Dated 15th March 1831 also all of the sixty Rod square Lot being in said town of Brownville for which I hold a contract Dated 14th March 1832. but the said Leonar Wheeler is to fulfill the said Contract.

Fourth I give and devise all my personal & moveable estate of evry name manner or nature whatever unto the said Leonard Wheeler Jr.

Fifthly I give and devise the use of the north half of the first mentioned half lot of Land to my son Leonard Wheeler & his Wife Unice During their natural life the division line of said lot to be to be parallell [sic] with the north line of Land lot I give & devise

the above mentioned Lot after the decease of Leonard Wheeler and his wife Unice to my grandson Leonar [edge of page worn] Wheeler Jr.

Sixthly - I give and devise unto my other Children Johnathan Silas Ephraim and Roswell Wheeler Rachel Scott Leah Grow Faney Crosby and Paul Hildreth one dollar each.

And I do hereby nominate and appoint Roswell Wheeler Executor of this my last will & Testament and hereby expre[edge of page worn] sly revoke all & evry former will made by me. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 7th day of March one thousand eight hundred & thirty four.
