On 10 October 1888, the Surrogate judge appointed ELON R. BROWN, ESQ. As special guardian of each and all of the above-named children.
WILL OF LOUIS CHAVOISTIE
LOUIS CHAVOISTIE at the time he made his will was of Cape Vincent in Jefferson Co., NY. Named his beloved wife, CATHARINE. Named his son-in-law, FERDINAND RADLEY. Named the rest of his children in equal shares. Named his daughter, FRAZIE, wife of Ferdinand Radley. Executors should not pay MARY RADLEY, wife of LUCAS RADLEY, her share during the lifetime of her husband; at his death, she was to be paid her share with accrued interest. If Mary did not survive her husband, at her death the money was to be paid to her children or the guardian, if minors. If Mary died without issue, her share was to be divided among his other children and their issue. Further, if any of his children died without issue, the share of such child was to go to the brothers and sisters, and to the children of such. He appointed AUGUSTUS AUBERTINE and FRANCIO DEZENGREMEL, SR. of Cape Vincent, as executors. Will dated 30 May 1871. /s/ Louis Chavoistie

NOTE: According to Child's Gazetteer, Louis died in France at 76 years; he married CATHARINE SAYLES and they were the parents of 8 children: HENRY, EUGENE, LEVI, CHARLES, MARY, JULIA, FRANCES and LOUIS. Louis Jr. who was a native of Cape Vincent married NORA SWENEY, daughter of PATRICK SWENEY.
