On 2 October 1882, LOVILA M. CADY of Red Oak, Montgomery Co, Iowa, stated in the petition to open the estate for probate, that Lucy had deceased on 18 September 1882, and that she, Lovila, was one of the executors named in the will.

LUCY BRAINARD named the Christian Biblical Institute at Stanfordville, Dutchess Co., NY. To each of her sisters: SALLY SMITH, BELINDA CRIMPS and LOVILA M. CADY. Named nephews and nieces: IDA PUFFER when 21; HANNAH TERRY; SIDNEY MOORE, LUCY MOORE, JOHN MOORE; ELIJAH WOOLWORTH, SEYMOUR A. WOOLWORTH, JOHN WOOLWORTH, TAMER RUMBLE and ADDISON CADY. And those whose parents are dead shall be entitled to their parent's share. Appointed ELIJAH WOOLWORTH and niece, LUCY MOORS to be executors of the estate. Will dated: 15 November 1870. /s/ Lucy M. CODICIL:
LUCY M. BRAINARD gave that part of her estate given in the will to her sister, SALLY SMITH (since deceased) to IDA PUFFER, EMOGINE RUMBLE and LOVILA M. CADY. The share of JOHN MOORE, if he is not living at her decease, one-half of his share to be divided equally among his children at 25 years. To her husband, A. C. BRAINARD, she left one dollar. She appointed Mrs. Lovila M. Cady as joint executor with those named in the will. Codicil dated: 2 December 1881.
Witnesses: E. M. WYLIE and ELLEN B. MOODY of Watertown.

NOTE: Lovila M. Cady was born in 1820 in New York and died 30 March 1887 at Red Oak, Montgomery Co., Iowa.
