On 19 February 1862, Hiram Dewey or Orleans, petitioned to open probate.
HEIRS/NEXT OF KIN:
Welcome C. Priest of Orleans, a minor child of Martin C. Priest, who is an idiot utterly unable to attend to his own affairs and protect his own interest and has no general guardian
Marcia J. Pierce, wife of Levi Pierce of Theresa, Jeff. Co., of full age, who is also a child of Martin C. Priest, deceased.
Will of Martin C. Priest
Martin made his will at the age of 50. He named his daughter, Marsha J. Pierce. He directed his executor to dispose of so much of his property and necessary in support of his son, Welcome C. Priest as long as he may live. He directed his executor to see that his daughters, Clarantha H. Priest and Alzana L. Priest, have their support until they come of age or marry. He directed that Ann Wait have her support out of his property so long as she remains in charge of and bestows proper care and attention upon and for the last three named children. He named Hiram Dewey as sole executor of his will.
