On 5 August 1886, Patrick died; Honor Hanley of Lynn, Essex Co., MA, petitioned to open probate and he, Patrick, left no will.

Delia Hanley, all of Newville, Oranmore County, Galway, Ireland, all minors, except Patrick who is now supposed to be of full age.
Said petitioner of full age of Lynne, Essex Co., Massachusetts, child of John Hanley, a deceased brother of said Patrick, who died prior to the death fo said Patrick. Said Patrick was never married and did not leave him surviving father or no other or brother or sister of the descendants of any brother or sister except as above stated. Filed 9 November 1887.
Patrick Hanley was late of Madison Barracks, Sacketts Harbour, NY, Sergeant in Co. J. 12th US Infantry and died on 5 August 1886, intestate and without parents or brothers or sisters, leaving three lawful nephews and three lawful nieces, the lawful children of John Hanley, deceased, who was the brother of Patrick Hanley, deceased. Patrick Hanley now age 20 or thereabouts, Timothy Hanley about 15 years, Martin Hanley now about 11 years, Mary Hanley about 18 years, Delia Hanley about 13 years and Honor Hanley about 21 years, sole next of kin...Margaret Hanley of Renville, Oranmore, Ireland sent a Power of Attorney document for the late uncle, Patrick Hanley, in Margaret's name in trust for the brothers and sisters to Mrs. Honor Hanley of Lynn, MA.
