NOTE: Roger Read died 12 October 1832 at 64 years, according to his tombstone; one of his children gave the date of 21 Nov. 1832. He is buried in the North Adams Cemetery. His wife, LYDIA READ died 23 April 1828 at 53 years and is buried in the same cemetery. IN THE WILL THE SURNAME IS SPELLED "READ" BUT THE PROBATE RECORDS INDICATE SURNAME "REED". Roger came to North Adams from Bennington, Vermont in 1806. Son Asahel Read lived in Watertown and was born in Schuyler, Herkimer Co. NY 26 May 1795. Roger Read's wife was LYDIA PERRY born in Shaftsbury VT, her father was a Revolutionary War Captain and killed in battle.
