On 5 July 1854, CHARLES D. WRIGHT of Pamelia, NY, petitioned to open probate on the estate and had made a will; further, that he was the sole executor of the will.

ROSWELL GATES of Sylvan Center, Michigan, all of full age
HARRIET A. GATES, a minor having no general guardian, of Pamelia, all children of deceased.
WILL OF ROSWELL GATES
ROSWELL GATES made his will at 67 years of age. Named his wife, HANNAH. Named his four sons: JOHN, ROSWELL, HENRY and HAMILTON and son, SAMUEL. Named each of his daughters: HANNAH, MARY, LOUISA and HARRIET. Named each of his children: JULIUS C.; SAMUEL W.; JOHN R.; ROSWELL; HAMILTON HENRY; HANNAH; MARY; LOUISA and HARRIET. He appointed CHARLES D. WRIGHT as sole executor of the will. Will dated: 4 June 1853. /s/ Roswell X Gates (his mark)
Witnesses: B. BAGLEY and EDMUND B. WYNN both of Watertown, NY
CODICIL:
Whereas he had made his will, above, and since making the will he sold the farm and real estate which was then owned and occupied by him and purchased a house and lot in the village of Williamstown in Pamelia (the stonehouse and lot on which it is situated formerly occupied by BERNARD BAGLEY). Named wife, Hannah, to occupy for her natural life. Codicil dated: 8 June 1854. /s/ Roswell X Gates (his mark)
