In the matter of the estate of THOMAS DAVIS late of Sutton, Worcester Co., MA:
On 1 November 1832, the Worcester Co. Register of Probate certified that ESTES DAVIS became the administrator of the estate, having been appointed by the court, as Thomas had deceased without a will and owned property in Jefferson Co., NY. JEREMIAH FIELD and FRANKLIN WAIT were appointed as appraisers of the estate.
Estes Davis of Sutton filed a petition and stated that Thomas had deceased about 10 April 1831 and had both real and personal property in Jefferson County, NY. Estes stated further that he was a son of the deceased and on 1 May 1832 he took out Letters of Administration and requested that SAMUEL BOYDEN of Ellisburgh, NY be joined with him as an administrator. In paperwork within the file it was stated that ESTES DAVIS of Massachusetts and ELI DAVIS of Ellisburgh, NY were the only heirs known and were over 21 years. It was learned that the assets in Jefferson Co. were less than the creditors claims; therefore, property both real and personal in Sutton could be attached for the amount lacking in the Jefferson Probate matter.
